DISTURBED And DEEP ROCK DRIVE Make Online Concert History
May 30, 2008Last night (May 29),something big happened at Deep Rock Drive. Really big. As part of the Pepsi Free Concert Series, Deep Rock Drive hosted their first multi-platinum artist, DISTURBED. During this first-of-its-kind event, some very interesting and exciting events came to pass.
DISTURBED fans were treated to a full concert performance in High Definition, full interactivity and no one standing in front of them, blocking their view. Every fan in attendance had a front row seat and a back stage pass.
Over 10,000 people showed up online to participate in the show. The technical team at Deep Rock Drive had expected that, too, since the initial batch of virtual tickets sold out quickly they had to add servers to their datacenter to handle extra capacity for more online fans.
"What blew us away completely what the unimaginable frenzy of interactivity that emerged during the show," said Jeff Henshaw of Deep Rock Drive. "It probably shouldn't come as a surprise, because we've built a a live experience that is truly fun. When you give passionate fans the tools to interact directly with an artist like DISTURBED, of course they're going to use them. But in just over 60 minutes, they used them at a rate that astounded us in the best of ways."
Over 1,300,000 interactive events took place during the show. Fans shouted out their thoughts, in freeform text, over 350,000 times. Fans threw "Emotapplause" animations onto the display screen wrapping DISTURBED's stage over 915,000 times. There were peaks of over 1,100 Emotapplause per second! When it came time to vote for an encore, over 5,000 people cast a vote in less than 10 seconds.
It must be OK to be fashionably late, because over 2,000 people grabbed tickets and rushed the virtual doors halfway through the show!
Deep Rock Drive's virtual venue filled with fans from 71 countries around the world. That's over a third of all the countries that exist (this has happened at two shows now).
